The S. Christa McAuliffe Elementary School envisions a safe, respectful and caring environment.  Our students and staff will be independent thinkers and life-long learners.  Collaboration among school, home, and community will encourage students to meet high academic and behavioral standards and achieve their fullest potential as contributing members of society.

Special Programs:


  • Responsive Classroom  The McAullife School follows the Responsive Classroom approach.  Our teaching emphasizes social, emotional, and academic growth in a strong and safe school community in order to enable optimal student learning.  We believe children learn best when they have rich academic and social-emotional experiences.  Our students participate in Morning Meeting, whole school assemblies and are encouraged to meet high academic standards.


  • Full time Math and Literacy Coaches support our teachers in implementing best practices in the classroom.
  • Our school wide Behavioral Approach focuses on consistent structured choices, self esteem and a strong sense of student belonging.
  • City wide Language Based Program and specialized support for students with visual and auditory impairments.
  • 21st Century and CTI Extended Day Program
  • Reading is Fundamental (RIF) Book Distribution
  • Universal Breakfast
  • Grade 3 & 4 Chorus and Recorder


Collaborations: 

  • Through a collaboration with Middlesex Community College and the University of Massachusetts Lowell we are able to provide our students enriching tutoring experiences.
  • Our collaboration with Greater Lowell Mental Health Associates provides support for families in need.



Parental Involvement:
  • Volunteers are encouraged and greatly appreciated! Volunteers help with many projects including reading with students,helping teachers, photocopying, field trips, and special events. Join us and share your energy, enthusiasm and creativity!

  • The McAuliffe School Family Association (our PTO) meets Tuesday evenings, once a month and is a wonderful support to the school through their fundraising and volunteer efforts. New members are always welcome.  In an effort to include more parents, a Friday morning 9:00 AM meeting occurs the first Friday of the month.

  • Our newsletter, The McAuliffe Shuttle and a school calendar are published throughout the year to keep parents informed.

  • Many activities and events are held for parents and families throughout the year. These events are always changing and evolving.  Be on the lookout for notices and information on these special fun times.

  • Pastime McAuliffe School Family Fun:  Science & Technology Night, 3rd & 4th Grade Hike to Mt. Monadnock, family dances and game nights, Back to School Family Fun Night, and Grade Level evening family activities.
