It is the most exciting time of the year! A new school year, a new beginning.
I hope you all had a fun and relaxing summer break. I am happy to welcome back all of you who have been with Lowell Public Schools and to bring our new families into the fold. LPS is a caring, inclusive community working together to support students and families and to provide the best education and opportunities possible.
Last school year was extremely challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought obstacles none of us had previously encountered and forced us all to think about how we do our jobs in different ways. I think our staff and families handled it the best way they could and stuck together to continue to support each other and the students, not only educationally, but also emotionally and nutritionally - providing and distributing nearly 1 million meals to families.
The COVID-19 pandemic is far from over. As the school year begins, all students, teachers, and staff will be required to wear masks and follow protocols to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible.
Students are remarkably adaptable and I am confident they will be able, with our support, to continue overcoming the obstacles this crisis throws our way and be stronger for it in the end.
As always, if you have any questions about the upcoming school year or COVID-19 protocols, feel free to contact your school. Additionally, our Family Resource Center at 151 Merrimack St. has all the information you need regarding registration, school selection, transportation, and homeless assistance. They can be reached at 978-674-4321.
Have a healthy and fun school year,
Dr. Joel Boyd
