  • IDEA Camp for Summer 2019 is back and better than ever!
This year, Lowell's STEM Summer program, IDEA Camp, will be held on the UMASS Lowell Campus. All the popular workshops will be offered and taught by Lowell Public School staff. Students will be working in the college classrooms and laboratories as they create innovative designs and delve into open-ended projects.  We will be holding 11 different, week long, programs that run from 8:30 am-3:00 pm.
Thanks to donations from MA Life Science, Circle Health and Project Learn, we can offer additional scholarships to Lowell students.  The typical cost can be reduced for Lowell residents from $180 for each week to $40. All camps include lunch and breakfast daily.   Workshops include Robotics, Crime Science, Seaperch Underwater Robotics, Video Game Design, Got Dirt -Gardening, Flight, Architecture, You Code Girl (a girls only program), Carnival Contraptions and Wire Your Bedroom.
Students currently in grade 4 up to grade 9 are eligible to attend.  Registration can be done online on the Lowell Recreation website or with a paper form from school.  For more information such as workshop descriptions and grade level programs, please see the Lowell Public School website.  Link to register  IDEA Camp Registration

The Butler Middle School is in the process of applying for a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant from the Massachusetts Department of Education.  The funding from this grant will allow us to create a free after school program for our students.  This program will provide homework assistance and educational enrichment for our students. Free busing would be provided and dinner would be served prior to dismissal.
Parent support for a program of this nature is vital to our success in winning this very competitive grant.  Please read and take a few minutes to fill out this brief survey. Your input will help us in our application process.

  • August 21, 2018

    Dear Parent/Guardian,

We are excited to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year!  We look forward to working closely with Butler families and staff to make sure that every student has a positive learning experience during this school year. We encourage parents/guardians to schedule visits to school, to volunteer their time and talents in classrooms, to attend Parent Council Meetings, and to serve on our School Site Council.  For more information, please plan to attend our Annual Parent Meeting and Open House on September 20th.  The Annual Parent Meeting is held from 6:00 – 6:30 PM.  This will be a great opportunity to learn about the school’s annual goals, programs and expectations, volunteer opportunities, and to sign up to be a part of a school based committee.  The meeting will be followed by an Open House from 6:30 – 7:30 PM when you may tour the building and meet your child’s/children’s teachers.

In order to support every student’s success, all students will receive an agenda book. Students are required to use the book in every class daily.  At a minimum, students should record their homework assignments in the agenda.  The agenda also serves as your student’s hall pass during the day.  Agenda books will be free, but if one needs to be replaced, the cost will be $5.00.  We ask that you review your child’s assignments each evening to ensure the completion of all homework and project assignments.

Please note that, in accordance with Lowell Schools policy, students are prohibited from having cell phones while at school.  Because we recognize that some parents may wish for their student to have their phone before and after school, we allow parents to sign a permission slip allowing their student to bring his/her phone to school.  A student who wishes to bring a phone must submit the signed permission slip and turn the phone in to his/her homeroom teacher in the morning.

Students will be issued a school lock for their hallway lockers. We have specific locks that are color coded for each grade level.   Non-school locks will not be permitted on hallway lockers. The replacement cost for lost or damaged locks will be $10.00.

Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time; homeroom begins at 8:00AM.   Breakfast will be served in homerooms from 8:00-8:15AM.  Breakfast and lunch will continue to be free for all students.

Please note that students will have physical education (“gym”) every other day from September through June.  Students will be required to dress appropriately wearing loose fitting clothes and sneakers.  PE teachers will send more information home at the start of school.

You will be receiving many forms to complete during the second week of school. We ask that you return all papers promptly and always notify the school of changes in phone numbers. Changes in addresses must be made at the Parent Center.

Additional dates will be scheduled to bring parents and teachers together for more in depth conversations about students. We will also continue to plan family events and student activities throughout the year. Information about events will be sent home and posted on the website.

Please call us with any questions and be sure to introduce yourselves to us when you come to our Annual Parent Meeting and Open House on September 20th.  We encourage you to visit the school website for updates and additional information:  Make sure to visit and follow our Facebook and Twitter pages as well: and
