Team Learning Cycles
Consideration for Team Learning Cycle (TLC)
The Team Learning Cycle is a collaborative process that could involve everyone in the educational community, including principals, coordinators, coaches, teachers, and students. This initiative aims to enhance student outcomes by leveraging data, aligning with academic standards, and refining instructional practices. To achieve this, we gather and analyze qualitative artifacts and data directly from students, providing a comprehensive understanding of their learning experiences. This approach ensures that the insights gained by educators are based on the genuine experiences of the students, which in turn helps to improve the learning outcomes.
Two 45-Minute Blocks: Curiosity Inquiry: Analysis of Data and Goal Setting
- What are you curious about related to the students?
- Examine Street Data (ideal end-of-unit assessments) for trends (possibly use the 5 whys protocol)
- Identify a focus area using students' current performance (consult the MA Frameworks)
- Summarize the Street Data
- Identify pre- and post-assessments for the TLC
- Agree on the structure of the TLC, set a goal(s), date(s), time for planning, and in-class support
Two 45-Minute Blocks: Team Planning: Learn Individually/Collaboratively
- Collaboratively plan instruction that supports the learning goals (focus on instructional routine)
- Ensure alignment with the MA Frameworks
- Identify the student evidence that will be collected
Two 45-Minute Blocks: Implement New Learning: Individually/Collaboratively
- Using HQIM, identify lesson(s)
- Use the lesson internalization tool and plan instruction
- Create a pre-assessment for students
- Administer the pre-assessment to students
- Teach the lesson that supports the learning goals
- In-class support: The teacher selects the type of support– the lesson(s) taught
- Participants collect Street Data focused on what the teacher was curious about in the TLC
- Notes are taken, Notice/Wonder chart may be used (audio and video recording options)
One 45-Minute Block: Reflection: Monitor Assess
- Debrief the experience
- Identify strengths and opportunities in the instruction
- Review and analyze the pre- and post-assessment student data (Street Data)
One 45-Minute Block: Adjust Practice: Plan Next Steps
Begin identifying the next learning intention by reflecting on feedback from Street Data and your curiosity.
- What are you thinking now? What are you curious about now?
