Project LEARN believes every young person in Lowell deserves the opportunity to learn, succeed, and thrive. Since 2014, our organization has developed and coordinated dozens of innovative programs that have touched the lives of tens of thousands of students, families, and educators in Lowell.
Through programs like IDEA Camp, Kids Who Code, Early College Lowell, Early Learners BookNooks, and Commencement 2 Careers, Project LEARN has helped to expose more than 2,800 Lowell High School students to career speakers; place 180 students in paid pre-professional internships; provide 475 students with intensive, hands-on learning in skills such as coding, computer-aided design (CAD), engineering, and robotics; and expand free early college programming to thousands of high school students, who have earned nearly 4,500 college credits, saving them and their families more than $1.1 million in tuition costs.
Lowell Loves to Learn promotes increased enrollment in early education programs and stronger kindergarten readiness throughout the city of Lowell. One program, BookNooks, has helped to distribute more than 39,000 free books to children in Lowell since 2017 using well-stocked bookshelves located in family-friendly locations across the city. Research has shown that having books at home can improve a child’s reading achievement and long-term academic success, and learning to read at an early age can help foster a lifelong love of learning. Each year, Project LEARN raises funding to purchase new books, organizes book-donation drives, and helps coordinate the distribution of BookNooks books.
