Dear Parent/Guardian:
The School Nurse is present at your child’s school to be a liaison between home and school regarding health concerns and to serve as a health resource to you and your child. The School Nurse completes state-mandated screenings and provides nursing care for accidents, illnesses and other medical situations. The School Nurse is also there to assist in promoting good health and in maintaining a healthy, safe environment for staff and students. Please feel free to contact the School Nurse at your child’s school with any health concerns or questions you may have.
If your child has the following symptoms, he or she must stay at home to prevent spreading of illness to other students as well as staff members. I will send your child home if he or she comes to school sick.
- A contagious illness like strep throat until the child has been on antibiotics for 24 hours
- A rash or skin condition not diagnosed by a healthcare provider - A fever that causes chills, sweating or muscle aches
- Temperature over 100.0F within the past 24 hours (can return when fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of fever reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin)
- Vomiting or diarrhea within 24 hours
- Red or pink eyes, drainage from the eyes (can return the day after treatment begins)
- Head lice
- Have been notified by the school nurse/health department that immunizations are not up to date. (Exclusion notice is given after the 3 rd warning).
Please remember that the best way to prevent the spread of infection is good handwashing.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me.
