A Rich History

The University of Massachusetts Lowell has a long history of partnering with the Bartlett Community Partnership School. “When the Lowell Normal School opened to train teachers in 1897 it was required to establish a training school where the aspiring teachers might observe and practice their newly acquired teaching skills. The Bartlett School, one of Lowell's newest and finest, made twenty-seven rooms available. The principal of the school, Cyrus A. Durgin, later became the Normal School's second principal (1908 - 1915).” (www.uml.edu/education) The Bartlett School remained the primary site for student teaching practicum for many decades. The partnership took on a new dimension in 2005, when the Demonstration School (a Lowell Public School housed at the Graduate School of Education), merged with the City Magnet School and the Bartlett School to become ....

THE BARTLETT COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP SCHOOL

For the last 10 years, UMass Lowell faculty have worked with teachers and students at BCPS. Much of the partnership work helps UML to better prepare new teachers, while at the same time positively impacting the learning of Bartlett students.
