Hi!  My name is Mike Cooney.  I am so excited to be joining the Morey Family this year.  I have been teaching in the Lowell Public Schools for the past 25 years and have loved almost every minute of it!  I begin my professional career in the field of deafness including working at the Helen Keller National Center. I then spent four years working at the Boston Higashi School, a Japanese run school for students with autism before I started teaching in Lowell as a special education teacher at the Demonstration, City and Arts Magnet schools in 1995, I moved on to the Reilly the following year where I spent the next 23 years before coming to the Morey this year.  I’m thrilled to call myself a Morey Tiger.

Outside of work, I Have a wonderful wife of 29 years and two children, a daughter and a son, that both work in the environmental field and so I need to keep on my toes about leaving a clean carbon footprint. I enjoyed a successful running career, completing 35 marathons all under 3 hours, captured 2 individual national titles, and 4 USA relay age records. A knee injury ended my running in 2018 but not before I was able to run my last 4 marathons with my daughter. I am now an avid bike rider and enjoy biking to work year-round, weather permitting as well as longer road rides on the weekends.

Hello! My name is Pam Durkin and I have been a special education teacher at the Morey School for the past 23 years. I’m married and a mom to three wonderful children ranging from ages 25 to 17.

I’m sure it is obvious that I love the C.W. Morey school because I have chosen to stay here to teach these wonderful kids, while continuing to grow and learn as an educator.  There is never a dull moment working in the special education field. I enjoy working with kids from various grade levels, as well as students with diverse learning styles. I love trying out new strategies and programs. I can’t begin to describe how gratifying and exciting it is to watch my students grow emotionally and academically.

The Morey School is an amazing place, and I’m so fortunate to work here and get to know and work with the most incredible kids. My greatest joy is when the former Morey School students come back and visit and share their many accomplishments. I love hearing their stories and experiences. It’s times like these that make all of our hard work worthwhile! We are Morey Proud!!!

I have been a special education teacher at the C. W. Morey School for the past fourteen years. Currently, I support students in first grade and preschool. I also work in the Twenty First Century summer program, at C. W. Morey, as a classroom teacher.

Helping children to learn and develop skills is very rewarding. All of the small accomplishments are very exciting, and we are amazed every day! I feel very fortunate to work in this nurturing environment where expectations are high for students and staff alike.

I live in Lowell with my husband. We have three grown children. They were all educated in Lowell Public Schools. I also have five grandchildren. I enjoy watching them learn and grow too!
