    Hello Sullivan Community.

I hope you are all doing OK. Hard to believe this all began for us on Friday March 13th…….Two weeks ago. It seems so long ago. How the world has changed since then. I sincerely hope you and your family are doing well.

Things remain “evolving” as we proceed to the unknown. I know Sullivan staff have been reaching out in various ways to the kids and families. We will continue to keep up the connection. I was even able to attend a Zoom session by Mr. Buckley and the kids this past Friday. They sounded great and brought a smile to a weary face. Life and learning is going on in this strange new world. Thank you parents and staff for your times and efforts to make it so….

As we proceed from here, know that the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has just issued some guidance on “remote learning” to school districts while schools are closed until May 4th. We will be reviewing this guidance in the coming days and developing a learning plan that engages students in meaningful and productive learning opportunities in the coming days. In addition, LPS is currently assessing students' access to technological devices, such as computers and iPads, and internet connectivity as we develop a virtual learning plan. More information will be provided to students and families this week on the district's learning program and implementation plan. Stay tuned.

For now, the following remain resources for Sulivan students and families:

In the grade level “Zoom Rooms,” grade level teachers will connect, check in, and chat.  Teachers have missed you and are excited to be able to see you all virtually! Date times, and zoom meeting links are above.  You can also find the information on the website, the Facebook page, and teachers will be sharing the log in link in google classroom, class dojo, Schoology, etc. Monday afternoon. Don’t forget to log on to zoom.us and sign into your grade level meeting! We are looking forward to seeing you!

    • Home Learning and Food Distribution: Please visit theLowell Public Schools website for a link to online learning resources that are available for our students: www.lowell.k12.ma.us/homelearning. These enrichment opportunities are optional activities to support your child's learning at each grade level and across different subjects like English Language Arts, math, science, social studies, art, and physical education. Additionally, enrichment packets for elementary and middle school students will be available for pick up at each of our lunch distribution sites. A list of sites and lunch distribution times are posted on the Lowell Public Schools website. Again, these enrichment packets and online materials are resources to support you as you continue to engage students in learning from home. We will continue to update the website and communicate with you about new activities and materials as they become available, and share this information via Facebook and Twitter as well.In the meantime, please stay healthy and safe and know that the Lowell Public Schools is here to support our children and families during this difficult time. Below is a list of where and when you can pick up enrichment packets during our grab and go lunch service. Hello Sullivan Community.

I hope you are all doing well. school and district personnel are working tirelessly behind the scenes to organize as much as possible an appropriate and coordinated school/district response to this crisis. There is a lot (be it on-line learning resources, student food distribution, building cleaning, video conferencing, etc., etc.), but the work IS absolutely happening.

Please visit the district website Lowell Public Schools website for information related to student meals and on-line learning resources. Just a few NEW items to share at this point.

I’ll continue to share important NEW information as appropriate both through my Sunday messages and during the week as needed. We are focusing now on best ways to keep a strong school/home “connection” during these difficult times. It is of utmost importance for us (school and home) to be connected during this period of “social  isolation.” We may be “isolated,” but we are not alone. Social media often gets a bad rap by me in this space…..I see it being a positive difference maker for maintaining “connection” as we proceed from here. We are working on that this week. Stay tuned….

    Take care.

    Hello Sullivan Community.

I hope you are faring well in these unprecedented times. It is hard to imagine it has only been a week. It seems like an eternity. As we try to adjust to all of the ever changing facets of this new normal, please know the Sullivan staff and I are thinking about the kids, you and your families and sincerely hope that everyone is healthy and doing well. Also please know that school and district personnel are working tirelessly behind the scenes to organize as much as possible an appropriate and coordinated school/district response to this crisis. There is a lot (be it on-line learning resources, student food distribution, building cleaning, video conferencing, etc., etc.), but the work IS absolutely happening.

The one thing I can say with certainty at this point is the one thing that is constant in all this is “change”…...sometimes daily, sometimes hourly. I appreciate your continued patience and support during these trying times. I will endeavor to get the messages out as appropriate in a timely fashion. and that I as your principal will continue my Sunday evening messages to update you, but also I will be sharing time-sensitive important information during the week as needed.

The one thing I have learned through my short time at the Sullivan is we can depend on each other for support to get us through. We will make it through this together. Stay Lowell/Sullivan Strong!

Please read below for IMPORTANT LPS INFORMATION from the Superintendent: During this time away from school, we know many families are looking for ways to continue learning at home. Posted by Edward Foster on 3/15/2020 3:30:00 PM

    Dear Sullivan Community,

What strange times we are in….. I hope you and your family are well and healthy as we begin these next few weeks (3/16-3/27) of “social distancing.” As we as a community/society go through these next few weeks and go into the unknown, there is a lot of uncertainty and fluidity not just in terms of schools but in many areas. I take solace in the fact that we are all going through it together and can rely on one another. We are all going through this together. Patience and calmness are absolute virtues.

For me, as your principal and part of a district leadership team, I’ll be working over these next two weeks on school related items starting off with the Sullivan/LPS COVID-19 response/decisions (food distribution, academic packets for the kids, future school events decisions, etc., etc.) and then onto regular school items this time of year. Not sure where I’ll be doing this work at this point other than I’m starting the work week remotely. Please know that during this time, I’ll be attempting to share as much information as possible as I find in times like these the “not knowing” is the worst and causes the most angst. I’ll do this by my usual Sunday eventing calls/emails but also via email when appropriate/prudent. Feel free to email me if you have questions/concerns. While I can’t say that I know all the answers, it is good to know the questions and I’ll certainly endeavour to find the answers. A few IMPORTANT NOTES for this upcoming week:

    1. STUDENT ACADEMIC TIME/ACTIVITIES: Students will have a lot of time on their hands over the next few weeks. It is always a good idea to keep the young minds active during the times away from school. In addition, many of you have asked about resources to keep your student engaged in learning while we are out of school. We have created a website, with the help of Ms. Dasilva, to highlight some of the resources that our Math Resource teacher Mrs. O'Neill and our Instructional Specialist, Dr. Lowe have found to be appropriate for your students to work on while school is out of session.  Please note that none of these are required, but are posted here as options. That said, we strongly encourage students to partake in these academic activities to keep the mind sharp. The learning ALWAYS continues. The following is the website: https://sites.google.com/view/learn-from-home/home?authuser=1. Dr. Boyd and the Lowell Public Schools Administration will be updating our situation throughout the time that we are away from school, as well as providing other resources through the district and in the community to support our families. As those resources are available, we will add them to this website, and notify you through the Sullivan Middle School website as well as the Sullivan Middle School Facebook page. (Note:  We invite you to go to Facebook and search for Sullivan Middle School and 'like' us!).
    2. There is NO SCHOOL ENTRY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE as all the school’s are getting a deep clean.
    3. FYI. The district is organizing FOOD DISTRIBUTION for our families during these next few weeks as many of our students rely on school meals for their sustenance. The following is currently posted on the District Website: We will be providing lunch for students during the weekdays at five sites: The Bartlett School, Greenhalge School, Murkland School, Reilly/Sullivan campus and the STEM Academy (Rogers). There will be a truck on location for 30 minutes a day at each site with food available to pickup and take home. We will be sure to send you a schedule when it has been finalized. We are also working on setting up additional sites as needed. In addition, our social worker Sarah Brooks and other LPS social workers put together a document for our families indicating local pantry organizations, locations and hours. Please see attached. This was also previously sent out to parents via email and posted onto our website and Facebook page.
    4. SULLIVAN CANCELLATIONS. The following Sullivan School Events over the next two weeks (3/16-3/27) are cancelled until further notice. They may or may not occur at a later date. It is way too uncertain to plan otherwise at this time so for all intents and purposes, the following events are CANCELLED until further notice:
      • 3/18 6-7 Sullivan PTO Meeting
      • 3/19 3:30-5:30 Sullivan/Butler Wrestling Meet
      • 3/26  5-8:00 PM Sullivan Pasta Dinner/Talent Show

In addition, the following future events are CANCELLED until further notice:

      • 4/1 Color of Justice Field Trip for gr. 7 & 8 girls
      • 4/3-4/4 Grade 6 Museum of Science Overnight Field Trip
      • 5/26-5/29 Grade 8 Washington D.C. Trip. (Participating parents have been informed of the plan in a separate email from Mr. Valliere. Email Mr. Valliere if you have any questions)

I will let you know if the situation changes.

I think that is it for now. Again, it remains an intensely fluid situation, Things can and will change. I will do my best to keep you abreast and up to date with important information. Take care of you and your family and stay safe and healthy. We will get through this together.

    Sincerely,

Ed Foster, Sullivan Middle School Principal

     Hello Sullivan Community,

I hope you had a nice and restful break. Hard to believe March is right around the corner. We had a big week the week before Break. Our School Climate Committee put on The Sullivan Great Kindness Challenge. It was a lot of fun, built school spirit and reminded students and staff of the Golden Rule. A good message all times of the year. We had our Parent-Teacher Conferences. Thank you to those parents who attended. It takes a Village…..Finally, our STEM Club participated in the annual LPS Science and Engineering Fair at LHS and had quite a showing. Kudos to the students involved:  Rachel N., Justin R., Aria C., Asiasin N., Jason G., Alexia A., Timmy P., Cameron K., and Mamady K. For Advisors, kudos go out to Ms. Kinney, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Neilsen. Well done!

    • Sullivan Musical Cancelled. As you may know, this year, we have been working in earnest to put on the show in a quality way. Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances on the school side, it has become apparent that we will not be able to continue this pursuit. The Sullivan Musical (Hairspray Jr.) this year has been cancelled. Students involved in the show currently can continue in the Sullivan after school program in Drama Club until the end of the Session II (Thursday, 3/12). In Drama Club they will be working on and learning about the finer arts of drama, including how to approach a new script as an actor and reading it for design purposes. If students would like to continue in the program, but not Drama Club, please have them come see Ms DaSilva. For After School Program Session III (March 23rd to May 28th), Drama Club will remain an option for students who wish to participate. Drama Club will entail preparing scenes, student directing, and detailed design work for students interested in these subjects. At the end of the session there will be a “Showcase” when parents can come after school to watch their students perform.

    Hello Sullivan Community,

I hope you had a nice weekend. Big week this PAST WEEK at the Sullivan. The girls basketball team went to the FINALS and lost a toughie to the Wang. It was a packed house at LHS gym!! Super season this season girls (and the boys worked very hard as well). We will get them next year!

THIS WEEK we have the following:

    • February 10-14th. From our School Climate Committee. One Week. One Checklist. Infinite Happiness! We are thrilled to participate in THE SULLIVAN GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE. February 10th-February 14th. Your student will try to perform as many kindness acts that they can during this week. This can be their "homework" for the week.  They can use the checklist as a guide that will be sent home. Also, there will be a school spirit competition in conjunction with our kindness matters theme. See flier on our Facebook page for details.
    • Tuesday, February 11th (snow date of February 13) from 5-6 PM in LHS cafeteria is the annual LPS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR (See attached flier on Facebook page.).
    • Wednesday, February 12 @ 12:10 PM is an Early Release. ALL STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT 12:10 PM. THERE IS NO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM RUN ON THIS DAY. ALL KIDS GO HOME AT 12:10 PM.
    • Wednesday, February 12 at 6:00 PM is our monthly PTO meeting in the library.
    • Thursday, February 13th from 2:30-3:30. SULLIVAN PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES. Come to school to talk to your child’s teacher and see how they are doing. THERE IS NO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM RUN ON THIS DAY. ALL KIDS GO HOME AT 2:10 PM.

From the Sullivan After School Program, there are still spots open for this session. Students should go see Ms. Dasilva for a form. Also, a reminder that there is NO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS THIS WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY on account of the Early Release and Parent/Teacher Conferences respectively.

  • Sullivan Girls Basketball in Championship game on 2/6/20

Posted by Edward Foster on 2/5/2020 11:00:00 PM

    Hello Sullivan Community,

    Congratulations to our Final Four!

    Middle School Championship Game:

    Thursday, February 6th

    Lowell High School

    Girls @ 5:00PM SULLIVAN & WANG

    Boys @ 6:00PM WANG & DALEY

We want this to remain a positive experience for all. Please remember:

    • Do not park along the street out front of the school. Staff, students and the public have reported receiving tickets. Nothing says UGH like coming out to a $30 parking ticket!
    • No outside food or drink is allowed in the gym (THIS IS REINFORCED and no one want to throw out a fresh iced coffee or food they just purchased. (small “contained” snacks and drinks will be available from our varsity team boosters)
    • This is a school sponsored event, best practices and behaviors are expected. Same rules apply at the high school.
    • For all student spectators, you must bring a parent to attend the event.

Should be a great time. Go Huskies!
