    Hello Sullivan Community,

I hope you had a nice weekend. I know we have some more time now with the Pats out:( Some quick notes for THIS UPCOMING WEEK:

    • Tuesday, January 14th is our Boys and Girls Basketball games verses the STEM at the Sullivan from 4-6:00 PM.
    • Wednesday January 15th from 5-6 PM in the library is the Grade 8 Washington D.C. Trip parent meeting. This is an informational meeting scheduled for all grade 8 students and their parents who have signed up to attend the Washington D. C. trip.  There will be a brief presentation about the trip followed by a question and answer session. Please make every effort to attend and bring all your questions if you intend to go on the trip.
    • Wednesday, January 15th from 6-7 in the library is our monthly PTO meeting. All Sullivan parents are welcome to attend.
    • Thursday, January 16th is our Boys and Girls Basketball games at the Bartlett from 4-6:00 PM.
    • Monday, January 20th, NO SCHOOL: MLK Holiday

    A couple of important notes:

    • From Ms. Dasilva and the After School Program: Afterschool program letters went home on Friday. Program starts tomorrow (Monday 1/13).  Students who were in session one (1) can start on Monday. New students must wait to start because bus list have been delayed. As soon as we get approval I will inform students. We have some space open on a few programs and am adding a Drumline activity for Monday’s. Students interested in learning to play drums in should see Ms. Dasilva.
    • Technology/Social Media: Please remember that student cell phones/ear buds/etc. need to be turned off and put away (in a locker or classroom lock box) in school. No exceptions. These items during the school day can interfere with the educational process. There will be teacher and administrative consequences for those students who do not comply. We appreciate parent support on these matters. In addition, a reminder, student-to-student conflicts played out in social media ARE SCHOOL ISSUESif it disrupts the educational process. A good number of students lately have been disciplined for name calling and threats that began as posts, snap chats, instant messages, texts, etc., etc. Parents are asked to know what your child is doing on social media and ensure they are being appropriate. School (and at times law enforcement) consequences will apply. Parents are asked to speak with their children on both of these items. We will be having student grade level assemblies on social media in the coming weeks.
    • The Boys and Girls Middle School Basketball Season gets underway this week. Go Sullivan! Please review the following Basketball Games Protocol for student spectators:
      • For Home Games: All school rules apply. All Sullivan School students will need a note from a parent or guardian to attend home games. The note should grant permission for the student to attend the game and also state how the student will be getting home (walking or pick-up). The note should also contain a contact phone number. Notes will be collected at the door. Students from other schools must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to attend the game.
      • For Away Games: All school rules apply. All Sullivan School students who wish to attend an away game MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will stay with the student for the entire game. Students cannot attend away games unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Please note: The boys' games start at 4:00PM and the girls' games start at 5:15PM. Please be at the school by 5:45 for pick-up if your child is attending both games. Thank you.

    Hello Sullivan Community,

I hope you had a nice weekend as we hurtle to the Holiday Break. This PAST WEEK, we had our monthly grade level Respect and Responsibility assemblies where we got to recognize our kids for their efforts academically and behaviorally and unveiled our new attendance incentive program and bathroom usage policy. Many of our eight graders attended a Civics Day at the State House on a field trip and all of our eighth graders got to see Improbable Players put on a performance entitled “I’ll never do that.” Topics included showing the ill effects of drugs, vaping, etc. and how to avoid.

    THIS WEEK,

    • After school program forms went home on Friday and are due back by Thursday (12/19). Students enrolled in session 1 and on the waitlist will be given top priority.
    • The Sullivan Student Council has deemed this week Sullivan School Spirit week. Students and staff are encouraged to show their school spirit by dressing accordingly. The days are as follows:
      • Monday will be Summer in December! Wear your favorite Hawaiian Clothes.
      • Tuesday will be Twin Day! Match with your BFF to show your spirit.
      • Wednesday will be Color War Awareness day! Dress in your grade color to show awareness for your assigned cause
      • Thursday will be PJ Day!
      • Friday is Holiday Ugly Sweater day! Get in the holiday spirit.

    • The Lowell Public Schools will host a special holiday luncheon for the kids at the Sullivan on Monday 12/16 during the lunches. This is put on by the Food and Nutrition Team at LPS. Thank you Food and Nutrition Team.

    Hello Sullivan Community,

I hope you had a nice weekend. Hard to believe only a few weeks until the holiday break. In the short week this PAST WEEK, we squeezed in a couple of pretty big school activities. Mother Nature tried, but wasn’t able to hold back our annual Sullivan Winter Concert. The show went on even though we missed some rehearsal days because of the weather!!! Wonderful job for all the kids involved and thank you to staff and the PTO who made it all happen You are much appreciated. In addition, we had our first High Honors Breakfast of the year where we acknowledged several of our hardest working and achieving students for the first quarter. It was a very nice event this past Friday morning.

THIS WEEK, we have the following:

    • On 12/9 (Monday) we will have monthly grade level Respect and Responsibility assemblies where we get to recognize our kids for their efforts academically and behaviorally. Other important topics covered include:
      • [New] Attendance Incentive competition
      • [New] bathroom usage policy which is a big change in how student bathroom trips will be organized. This new structure is aimed at increasing the overall safety/security of the halls and bathrooms and much needed.
      • Academic and Behavioral expectations for Sullivan Sports and DC trip (gr. 8)
      • Cell phones (including videoing fellow students), ear buds, hoods expectations and consequences reviews.
    • On 12/11 (Wednesday) we have an EARLY RELEASE. ALL STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT 12:15 PM.
    • Also on 12/11 (Wednesday) several of our eight graders will be attending Civics Day at the State House on a field trip.
    • On 12/12 (Thursday) at 2:30 PM we have our monthly School Council meeting.
    • On 12/13 (Friday) the Improbable Players are coming to put on a performance for our 8th graders entitled “I’ll never do that.” Topics include showing the ill effects of drugs, vaping, etc. and how to avoid.

In addition, ATTENTION GRADE 8 STUDENTS, the final entrance exam date for Lowell Latin Lyceum program next year is on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon at LHS in the Little Theater. If you have academically competitive, motivated students interested in the possibility of admission to the Lyceum, please let them know that they can register for the test, using this link (click here) or going to lowell-latin-lyceum.org and following the links to the admissions application page. There is an online registration form for the test, as well as the materials for the application. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Robert Delossa at the Lowell Latin Lyceum.. All application materials are due back to LHS by Dec. 20.

Finally, from the Sullivan PTO, Sullivan apparel orders are due with payment on Wednesday, December 11.  This year we are selling sweatshirts, t-shirts and joggers.

IMPORTANT UPCOMING SCHOOL DATES. Please check the website regularly for ADDS/SUBTRACTIONS/CHANGES.

    • Wednesday, 11/20 from 6-7 PM, we have our monthly Sullivan PTO meeting. All Sullivan parents are welcome to attend.
    • The FOLLOWING Wednesday, 11/27 is an early release. ALL SULLIVAN STUDENTS WILL BE DISMISSED AT 10:30 AM. Also that morning we will be having our annual Sulivan student v. staff volleyball game. GO SULLIVAN STAFF!!!
    • On 12/3 from 6:30-7:30 PM is the Sullivan Winter Concert.

Also, a reminder in the AM at drop off. Parents need to be careful dropping kids off as we have a good number of kids and cars in the same area…..Never a good mix. The drop off/pick up policy is on the website, but please be reminded of the following during AM drop off:

      1. **Student arrival is between 7:20 AM-7:35AM (Please DO NOT arrive before 7:20 AM. Students are not allowed on campus before 7:20 AM.)**
      2. Car pull around front loop to driveway directly in FRONT of building only.
      3. Pull up car AS FAR AS YOU CAN and stop.
      4. Students exit from passenger side.
      5. Car leaves PROMPTLY and safely.
      6. Patience and calmness are virtues. Parent cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Finally, from our awesome school nurse (Nurse McGrath), IF your child came home with a notice from the nurse, letting you know that they were not able to pass their vision or hearing screenings done at school this year.  We strongly recommend that you contact your child’s doctor promptly for further evaluation. Deficits in vision or hearing can greatly affect your child’s ability to learn. Our goal is to ensure that every child has an equal opportunity to learn. Please have your child’s physician complete the form and return it to the school nurse. We can then follow any recommendations that your child’s doctor has to facilitate their learning.
