Current Learning Model:
All Lowell Public Schools students are taking part in remote learning.
Plan for students returning on campus:
The School Committee, after consultation with the Board of Health, set the following target dates for returning students to in-person learning, provided the COVID-19 data can improve between now and then (please note that the School Committee voted to push back the first of the targeted dates from February 1 to February 22):
- February 22 - Students in substantially separate special education programs who were previously participating in our in-person learning model
- March 1 - Students, who are not in a substantially separate special education program, but were previously served in-person this school year as part of our original school reopening plan
- April 1 - Expansion of our in-person learning model to include additional students beyond those who were assigned to in-person learning at the beginning of this school year
These dates are not set in stone and we will continue to review the COVID-19 data and consult with the Board of Health. And we will be sure to provide you with any updates as we look at our learning plan going forward. In the meantime, we will continue to offer our students a safe and meaningful education experience virtually.

Important Update About Flu Vaccinations
-
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is removing the requirement for flu vaccination for attendance in childcare/preschool, primary, secondary and postsecondary education. Preliminary data show that this has been a mild flu season to date, presumably as people have received their seasonal flu vaccine and have been adhering to mask-wearing and social distancing due to COVID-19. Given the intensive Commonwealth-wide efforts regarding COVID-19 vaccination, DPH wants to alleviate the burden to obtain flu vaccination and focus on continuing our COVID -19 vaccination efforts. DPH continues to strongly recommend that everyone age six months and older receive their seasonal flu vaccine each year.
