• Grants Department – Supporting Student Success at Lowell Public Schools

The Grants Department at Lowell Public Schools (LPS) plays a crucial role in securing essential funding that supports the district’s core programs and services. Through partnerships with state and federal agencies and private funders, LPS manages over 50 individual grants that provide critical resources to our students, staff, and school communities.

Our funding sources include the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the U.S. Department of Education (US ED), and private corporations, all of which contribute to initiatives that enhance educational opportunities and outcomes for students.

    Examples of current grants include:

    • Title I, Title IIA, Title III, Title IV
    • 21st Century Community Learning Centers
    • Refugee Impact Grant
    • McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grant
    • Acceleration Academies
    • Adult Education and Family Literacy Services
    • MASS Grad
    • Early College Support Grants
    • Early Childhood Grants: GLEAM, Coordinated Community Partnership Initiative (CCPI)
    • Safe and Supportive Schools

These grants empower LPS to offer innovative programs, support diverse student needs, and provide equitable access to quality education across the district.

Supporting Staff in Securing Funding for Educational Initiatives

At Lowell Public Schools (LPS), the Grant Department not only secures funding for district-wide initiatives but also actively supports staff who are interested in applying for grants. We recognize that educators and staff often have innovative ideas that can enrich our schools, and we are here to help turn those ideas into funded programs.

Our team assists staff at every step of the grant process:

    • Vetting Grant Opportunities: We help staff identify and evaluate potential grant opportunities to ensure alignment with district goals and compliance with funding requirements. By thoroughly vetting opportunities, we make sure the grants pursued will have a lasting, positive impact on our students and schools.

    • Grant Writing Support: Writing a successful grant proposal can be complex. We offer expert guidance, including proposal development, narrative support, and addressing all required components. Our goal is to help staff craft compelling proposals that clearly articulate their vision and meet funders' expectations.

    • Fiscal Management: Once a grant is awarded, we provide ongoing support with managing the budget and ensuring compliance with all fiscal and reporting requirements. From tracking expenditures to submitting financial reports, we help staff maintain fiscal responsibility throughout the grant award period
