Racism, discrimination, bullying and harassment goes against everything that the Lowell Public Schools stands for and believes in. Such offenses relating to racism, discrimination, bullying and harassment are considered bias incidents and are a device that interrupts the learning process and contributes to the achievement gap which disproportionately impacts individuals of ethnic & vulnerable subgroups.
The Lowell Public Schools is continually working to ensure that we provide a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning and working environment for all of our students, faculty, and staff.
This Lowell Public Schools does not condone discrimination on the basis of protected status in the education programs and activities it operates. Furthermore, Lowell Public Schools aims to promote practices that maintain harmonious relationships and fosters a healthy learning environment conducive to academic achievement.
The Lowell Pubic Schools prohibits racism, discrimination, bullying and harassment because of a person’s race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sex, socioeconomic status, homelessness, gender identify or expression, pregnancy or pregnancy related condition, parenting status, sexual orientation, disability (including but not limited to mental, physical, developmental or sensory), academic status, physical appearance or by association with a person who has or is perceived to have one or other of these characteristics.
The Lowell Public Schools is committed to working with students, staff, families, law enforcement agencies and the community to prevent issues of discrimination, bullying, harassment, racism and other bias-based misconduct. Lowell Public Schools is working to design and employ a Prevention and Intervention Plan that embodies a comprehensive and restorative approach for responding to incidents of discrimination, bullying, harassment, racism and other bias-based misconduct.
Any and every infraction involving discrimination, bullying, harassment, racism should be referred to the Head of School/Principal for further action and determination. Any student, staff or family member(s) who feels that they have been subjected to racism, discrimination, bullying and harassment within the Lowell Public Schools should file a complaint/grievance with the school.
