Michael Lovato brings over 17 years of educational experience to the Special Education Director Position as a Special Education Behavior Support Teacher, Special Education Support Staff, Assistant Principal, Principal, Director of Curriculum, Special Education Director, State Special Education Director and Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Lovato began his professional career as a Behavior Support Teacher with the Santa Fe Public Schools serving students identified as in need of special education support. He was promoted within the special education department where he served as a Special Education Program Specialist providing direct support to teachers and administrators with the implementation of special education services for students placed in behavior support rooms to include the detention center and alternative placements. Mr. Lovato began his administrative career as an Assistant Principal where he lead the special education department successfully to achieve overall academic gains, increased graduation rate, reduced discipline and compliance in special education. Mr. Lovato’s experience includes serving as the New Mexico State Director of Special Education and most recently the Questa Independent Schools Superintendent. Mr. Lovato has been a key contributor in the development of alternative schools and leading change as an administrator to improve the overall quality of the district. Mr. Lovato believes that every student can succeed and that all staff have a responsibility to provide an adequate education to every student. He believes in building relationships with all stakeholders in order to promote positive environments conducive to learning.
